French Shore (Clare)

Was a very nice day and I thought I should go for a ride. Not very long but was nice to get out and go for a ride. The weather was warm and the sky was blue. The wind was quite strong at times but it wasn't too much of a factor when riding.

Here is a look at the map of where I went today. Not a long route but there are some nice things to see and it's always fun to ride along the water like that on a warm day.

I think the total route was only 178 Km and it only took around 2 1/2 hours with a gas stop and a stop for a drink.  Very easy and a good way to spend a couple hours. There was a bit of traffic on the road but compared to other places I would still say it was quite light.

I went along the number 1/101 as they are combined on this stretch of road. So you can call it the 1 or the 101 it doesn't matter, same highway. Anyway I went down the MArsh road for a look as it's scenic and you can see the wind farm across the bay. A nice spot and you ca ride right over to the 217 HWY if you are so inclined to do so. It is dirt but not bad at all. There are 1 or two spots that hold onto some big puddles so be prepared for that.  This is the beach below.

The way across to the 217 highway for those who want some more dirt riding. It's easy.

This Savary park along the 101. It's a very nice place to pull off and have a stretch or a bite to eat. It's on the water and has nice grounds and it usually very quiet. So stop on by for a look.

This is looking down at the park. It's a great spot to relax for awhile.

From there just keep riding along the 101 and you will come to Gilbert's Cove. It's very scenic as well and the have a lighthouse there that you can go through. They have all kinds of old photos of life in the area years ago and if you want I think they have a tea room. So you can have a break there if you so desire as well. This is a look out at the cove lighthouse area.

You can just see the lighthouse on the far right there. Just turn at Lighthouse Road and you will get to it in short order.

Next along the way I turned before the exit to Weymouth and took the road to Fort Point. It's a neat little spot out of the way and if you didn't know where to turn you would not find it.
This is taken right from the highway in Fort Point. There is a nice little beach there and that channel is where the fishing boats come and go.

This was taken around the corner from the above photo and you can see the bridge that is part of the 101 highway you get back on to continue.

This is at the end of the small channel that you can see in the last photo. This old boat hasn't seen the water for awhile I think. Oh well maybe next season.

Once back on the road you will turn into Saint Bernard off the 101 and back onto the #1 highway. In Saint Bernard there is this massive church. You can visit and go inside if that's your thing.

This is just down the road from the church. There is a nice little wharf there where a few boats tie up. I think the lighthouse is still active but I have not been there in the dark to find out.

This is taken driving into the park area off Doucette Point road.  It's a really neat area. The beach rock is all over the place where you would not expect it to be. There are huge areas of beach rock hundreds of meters back from the high tide line so how it got there is a mystery. Well to me anyway.

Here you can see the high tide line. It's very high and from the top of the pile to the beach is probably 3-5 meters. Must be some huge tidal action to push them up like that.
This looking 180 degrees opposite from the above picture. Down that way is Meteghan and St.Anne's University campus. That little spike is the church steeple. Pic to follow.

A small little church was built there in the 1700's and has been either rebuilt or refurbished. You can look inside and there is a plaque to read.

Another look along the beach. The big stone building is the church from before. It's probably 3 km away. Still easy to see.

Along a trail on one of the walking paths. A nice still stop with a nice view.
This sucker was built a long time ago apparently and usually you can see a lot of folks visiting it. Was quiet today. All wood and must have been a bugger to build, that steeple is high! The French love their churches!!

A picture of Meteghan and the wharf area. Looks to be quite an active fishery going on there.

After I left Meteghan I went along the Meteghan collector road that crossed over the 101 and then I kept going. Eventually it connected up to the 340 Hwy which I rode back through Weymouth and back to home. This was taken along one of the dirt sections. A nice cool spot to rest for a bit. Maybe some fish in there??

Anyway that's it for now. Thanks for looking.
